Dance of the Fairy

Nutcracker_3No, this is not a picture of me on a Saturday night at the Gay 90's.  And I am not the aforementioned dancing  fairy.  I'm talking about Minnesota Dance Theatre's production of Loyce Holton's Nutcracker Fantasy, and the dancing fairy is the Sugarplum Fairy.  The Nutcracker Fantasy is a sentimental favorite of mine.  This is a little known fact, but yours truly played the role of Mother Ginger in the LaCrosse Dance Company's production of the Nutcracker Fantasy for 2 years running.  And by running, I mean running away from the eight bratty 8 yr olds that that had to hide under my skirt and would pull down my bloomers, pull on my leg hair and untie my shoes!!!  Boy I miss those days...

But you can't miss this production!  As they say "It's The Big One," and I know that you're all after that!  It's at the Historic State Theatre December 16-19, 2005.  Something else you can't miss...  photos of me as Mother Ginger (coming soon)!   love, another big one - Tim

A new Mary is coming to town!

Mary Hey Kids,

Marytyler Looking at the latest issue of Lavender magazine, I ran across an add for the new Hamburger Mary's that's coming to town!  Hamburger Mary's are geared towards "alternative lifestyle" types, which really means Homo's.  The last time I checked out Mary's place was when I was in Vegas.  I was there kind of early in the night, so not much was happening but it looked like it could have had potential.  For those of you that remember the Rainbow Rooster next to Bolt Bar, hopefully Hamburger Mary's will have staying power.

Waitin for Mary....

Martini and Olive Meets Linda Eder

Showpicture2 So, I was perusing the State, Orpheum and The Pantages Theaters website when I came across this...  Linda Eder at the State Theater, and I thought to my young gay self that I have never seen her in concert before !  Shhh, don't tell anyone as, they may revoke my gay card ! UPDATE:  Check out the interview with Ms. Eder at Lavender here.

But then I went down just a bit further on the website and there they where shimmering like a freshly polished disco ball.....

Showpicture

No, not Tim and I in our favorite holiday garb; but instead the one and only Martini and Olive! Unlike Ms. Eder, I HAVE seen Martini and Olive...multiple times!  This is probably one of the funner Christmas (I know its a bit early to be thinking about Christmas, but hey I always say plan ahead) shows going on in Minneapolis during the Holiday season.  To sum the show up you have Martini and Olive and cast of characters (Swizzle Stick Dancers) shakin there money makers to the awesome sounds of the 70's, i.e. DISCO!

Shakin my groove thing, yea, yea....

Polka...Not just for the Polish!

Yes dears, you to can be a polka queen at Nye's Bar & Polonaise Room in Northeast Minneapolis!  This throwback to the hey day of Dean Martin and my good friend Frank,is always a riot to check out any weekend night.  On one side you have your 1960's lounge featuring a wide assortment of Polish food, steak and seafood. On the other side through two swinging doors you have the Polka bar featuring Ruth Adams and the "worlds most dangerous polka band".

Pp3p1_1 Finally finish the night up Sweet Lou style.  Grab one last Vodka Martini, Str8 up with two olives and the microphone and belt out your favorite tune.  To my surprise, it seems that Sweet Lou is a walking songbook.  She pretty much knows them all.  Frank Sinatra, Show-tunes, beer drinking songs and Billy Joel.  Watch out Mr. Joel, you got competition on your heals!

Not so Polish,

Jayson

PS.  The picture is the famed woman her self, Lou Snider!

Girls... Girls... Girls...

No boys...  I'm not turning straight.  I'm talking about the singing group "the girls" with Lori Dokken, Erin Schwab, Judi Donaghy & now Patty Peterson.  Jayson and I crossed the river {sigh} on Thursday night and saw "the girls" at the Townhouse Bar in St. Paul. The Townhouse is the Twin Cities best piano bar featuring Lori Dokken and guests Thursday - Saturday evenings.  But here's the good news...  you don't have to cross the river to see them yourselves!  They will all be together at the Times Bar & Cafe in Northeast Minneapolis this coming Monday, November 7!  If you miss that performance (which you shouldn't, but I understand) watch at loridokken.com for other performances throughout the Twin Cities best Jazz clubs.  Check out what the Dakota Jazz Club and The Rake magazine have to say about them. Webcover_1

So all of that and you're still wondering, well what types of songs do they sing???  You'll hear everything from the Rolling Stones to Stevie Wonder, from Dream On to Spanish Harlem, from Broadway Showtunes to Classic Rock and of course my favorite Lady Marmalade!  All with incredible energy and passion.

They're so good I have just one question to ask... "Voulez vous coucher avec moi ce soir?"

still humming, tim
