Bring Your Hotsy Totsy Ones!

Everyone loves good company, and a good Tiki Bar!  Psycho Suzie's Motor Lounge is exactly that.  I read one quote that called it more "tikibilly."  That's almost as perfect as the Red Rocket appetizers!

Tikimugsclose Psycho Suzie's is located in NE Minneapolis near the intersection of Marshall & Lowry.  The website says "bring your cronies, your broads, your brother, your mother."  You'll see all of them at Psycho Suzie's and more!  Jayson and I like to go and wager on which "straight" boy there won't be so after a couple tiki cocktails (which you can buy the glass to bring back to your trailer!)  But don't just go to Suzie's for the cocktails, make sure to go on an empty stomach.  Peggy (actually Margaret but that just doesn't go as well, and where the h*ll did they get Peggy from Margaret?) whips up a mean deviled egg!  Also, the aforementioned Red Rockets which are beer battered deep fried weinies with an extra order of Trans Am Tator Tots.  I'm getting hungry just typing this!  I also must mention their pizzas, which are some of the best in Minneapolis!

A trip to NE Minneapolis isn't complete without being introduced to one of my favorites, the "Greenie."  Almost right across the street from Psycho Suzie's is Tony Jaros, home of the Greenie!  What is a greenie you ask?  Who the heck knows!  It's a Vodka concocktion that's green & fizzy.  It tastes like lemon lime kool-aid, but kicks your bum after about 3 of them.  Now, don't be afraid when you walk into TJ's boys, the clientele is mostly local blue collar workers that like their greenies after a long 60+hour work week.  I believe that they have a growing homosexual clientele though, last time I was there they had introduced the "PINKIES!"

Oh the good ole days...

Hello bois....and girls!

Tim has been riding me for the past few days about not "blogging" as of late.  So here is a quick little story...

Number of years ago (when I was 18, I'm now 26) I was downtown with a number of my str8 friends from high school at a club called Graffitis carrying on like a bunch of 18 year old do.  It was getting close to closing time, so I thought it would be a good idea to check out the gay mega-plex known as the Gay 90's.  It was right around the corner from Graffitis.  So I told the str8's that I was going to head home early, knowing very well what I had just told them was a complete lie and my true intentions where to head to the Gay 90's.  Keep in mind this would be my first experience in a gay club.  So I ditched the str8's(sorry Adam and Heather!) and headed around the corner.

For those of you from out of town, the Gay 90's bills itself as the "Upper Midwest's Premier Show lounge", which means drag. queens!!  Got to love the "boys who dress like girls, and act like squirrels and hide there nuts," a quote from my favorite Queen Ms. Camille Collins!

Besides being a show lounge with drag shows, the Gay 90's also has two dance floors on the first level.  One is geared towards Hip-Hop, and the other Techno and Electronica.  Also, just off the dance floor, through a small doorway is the MENS ROOM.  Guys, this is YOUR room hint hint... : P In addition to boys who dress as girls and dancing till all hours of the night, you can also have dinner there prior to the fun starting.  Dinner is dirt cheap there and Friday night is prime rib night!

Back to the story...nah, its actually quite boring...

Jayson

Ps.  Mom, I don't think you look like Nina DiAngelo !, unlike Adam.

Strong. Hot. Full of Cream.

Wouldn't that be great if you could buy a t-shirt that says Strong. Hot. Full of Cream.  Well...  Good news, I know where you can!  Vera's Cafe is the quintessential gay coffee house here in Minneapolis.  Some of you may remember the days of Cafe Wyrd & Cafe Zev...  that was then, Vera's is now!

Jayson wanted somewhere to go late on Saturday morning to have a cup of coffee and study for his upcoming finals.  I gladly said that I would accompany him.  Coffee shops conjure up memories of when we first started dating 6+ years ago (for the straights reading that's like 25 in gay years!)  We would go to coffee shops 5 nights a week (of course he was also 19.)  Over the years I've never lost that coffee shop craving I got in college.  And by looking around at the clientele at Vera's, neither have many other Minneapolites.  All ages, all genders and all sexual persuasions are represented in the diverse clientele.  All searching for that one thing in life, good camaraderie and a good cup of coffee that's Strong, Hot & Full of Cream!Veras

Lavender Magazine just featured Vera's in their latest issue in an article titled Urban Coffee Shops.  Check it out here http://www.lavendermagazine.com/artman/publish/article_1760.php for other coffee shop suggestions.  I have one suggestion for you Lavender.  You forgot one very important neighborhood hangout, Steamworks Coffee & Tea Co. in the Camden neighborhood of Minneapolis.  What other coffee shop can you go get your picture taken with Santa?

Mo-blogging on the Hiawatha

Here I am... my first attempt at mo-blogging. That's mobile blogging for those still wet behind the ears! I'm on the Hiawatha light rail transit from Bloomington to my old stomping grounds downtown Minneapolis! My darling friend Beth and I are having lunch at my favorite sushi restaurant Nami! I can't wait for my Spicy Tuna roll!
I'm just passing the MSP airport stop now... only 20 more minutes 'til I'm downtown! I have to run and call Beth to tell her I'm running late, I'll just blame it on the train (like Milli Vanilli.)

Homo for the Holidays...

Have I mentioned how I hate going home to Bagley Wisconsin for the holidays, my hometown of 317 people (316 after I moved, they just haven't changed the population sign)!  But that's not what I'm blogging about (that'll come AFTER the holidays).  This is about the gay themed movies that have been released for the holidays.

Rent Starting with the RENT, Jonathan Larson's revolutionary rock opera turned movie musical.  Released on Thanksgiving, I'm giving thanks that it may soon be off the big screen and on the little disc where I may consider Netflix-ing it!  Of course, there is one good thing with the movie: Tayeidina Yes, Idina Menzel (oh wait, what I really meant to say was Taye Diggs!)  Ok, so maybe they met in the original Broadway Cast of RENT, and maybe they got married.  I'm still hoping that there's a chance that I can "get my groove back" with Taye!  You can see RENT at select Minneapolis theatres...  let me suggest dinner and a movie!  Dinner at one of my favorites (and the oldest bar/restaurant in Minneapolis) Pracna and then the show at the St. Anthony Main Theatre.  And check this out...  RENT is into blogging too:  http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/rent/blog/.

20050911153402 Bum ba dee da, bum ba dee da...  happy trails to you...  until we meet again...  If only I could meet Jake Gyllenhaal & Heath Ledger on some happy trail wearing Wranglers and a cowboy hat!   Of course, the movie I speak of is Brokeback Mountain.  I saw this quote in the synopsis and thought what a perfect quote "Ultimately, the one constant in their lives is a force of nature – love."  Hondoheadder_03Finally, I don't have to read Louis L'Amour and fantasize about gay cowboys!  Let's face it, Louis just doesn't do much for most of us!  And I know where I'm going to see it first!!!  Where all self-respecting gay men will first see it, the Walker Art Center!  I'll see you there on Sunday evening, December 11 at 7:30pm the Walker Art Center.
