True Colors

OK...  a new album, AND a new Broadway show for the 80's queen of unusual Cyndi Lauper!  That's right, Girls are still wanting to have fun and this 50 something girl is still having fun, Time after Time.

Laupercyndibody2005 The Body Acoustic is Cyndi's latest album.  The album features two new songs and 10 of her hits (five of which are from her debut), sung and performed in collaboration with such big name artists as Sarah McLachlan, Jeff Beck and Ani DiFranco. The arrangements, as the title suggests, are largely acoustic, sometimes featuring a full backing band and other times merely Cyndi and guitar, making this stripped down, best-of a great listen and a commendable, inventive approach.

And On Brodway... Pop star Cyndi Lauper has replaced Edie Falco as Jenny in the cast of the Roundabout Theatre Company's upcoming production of The Threepenny Opera, scheduled to run March 24-June 11 at Studio 54 in NYC.

Base_image For those of you that were as fortunate as I to see her either open for Cher at the Target Center, headline at the Twin Cities gay pride block party or rock the grandstand at the Minnesota State Fair you know that She Bops to a different drum, but is as entertaining as ever!  Those of you that maybe don't like her, you need to see her in concert.  You'll have a Change of Heart.  So...  if she comes back to Minneapolis, although Money Changes Everything, I'll always pay it to see Cyndi!  love, the not so unusual tim

Heure Heureuse

Hipster_button1 In the language of love, "Heure Heureuse" means Happy Hour!  In German it is "Glückliche Stunde!"  The Spanish or Portugays (I mean Portuguese) translation suites me more "Hora Feliz."  But no matter which language you speak...  there's only one place to go to find the best Happy Hours, THRIFTY HIPSTER!  So, I turned to my friend Webster (no, not Emmanuel Lewis) the dictionary.  7649 I wanted to see if Thrifty Hipster suited me.  Here's what I found:

Thrifty \Thrift"y\, a. [Compare. Thriftier; superl.

Thriftiest.]
   1. Given to, or evincing, thrift; characterized by economy
and good management of property; sparing; frugal.

Her chaffer was so thrifty and so new. --Chaucer.

I am glad he hath so much youth and vigor left, of
which he hath not been thrifty.       --Swift.

   2. Thriving by industry and frugality; prosperous in the
acquisition of worldly goods; increasing in wealth; as, a
      thrifty farmer or mechanic.

   3. Growing rapidly or vigorously; thriving; as, a thrifty
      plant or colt.

   4. Secured by thrift; well husbanded. [R.]

I have five hundred crowns, The thrifty hire I saved
            under your father.                    --Shak.

   5. Well appearing; looking or being in good condition;
      becoming. [Obs.]

I sit at home, I have no thrifty cloth. --Chaucer.

Syn: Frugal; sparing; economical; saving; careful.

Who knew that "growing rapidly or vigorously", "well husbanded" and "well appearing" were all meanings of the word "Thrifty"?  That definitely suites me!

Now the word Hipster:

hipster
n : someone who rejects the established culture; advocates
extreme liberalism in politics and lifestyle [syn:
hippie,

hippy, flower child]

Now, I'm a bit perplexed, because this doesn't really suite me at all.  However, I do feel that it would suite many of my readers...  So with this said I want you all to visit www.thriftyhipster.com.  You can find the best happy hours in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area at exactly to the day of the week and hour that you are looking for!  They even have a GLBT bar section (which I think is where the "hipster" comes in!)  Check it out, I "vivant et meurent" (for those of you that aren't bi (lingual) that means "live and die") by it!  l'amour, hipster économe, tim

Minneapolis Freedom

Move over Billie Jean King, I think Elton John is going to re-write his song "Philadelphia Freedom" to MINNEAPOLIS FREEDOM after I join the gay tennis club!  That's right, I was excited to read in the latest issue of Lavender Magazine the article on gay sports organizations here in Minneapolis.  Click the link to read more about it.  glassports.org is home to the amateur volleyball and tennis organization.  There's just something about a sport with grunting and fuzzy balls.  The only problem...  I don't know what type of outfit to wear!  Do I wear short pants like Rafael Nadal?  Nadal Do I grow my hair long like classic Andre?  Agassi23859 Or, do I wear a 1-piece like Mary Pierce?Pierce  All I know is that much like Bobby Riggs, Minneapolis Freedom wouldn't have a chance against Ms. Billie Jean King!  King2_i

Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah...

Campsnoopylogo_web0Here I am at, Camp ___?___!  Camp is very, entertaining...  and they say we'll have some fun if it get's a name!

Today the Mall of America announced that it was unable to reach an agreement with United Media, the keeper of the Snoopy trademark.  So what's this mean?  No more gay days at Camp Snoopy!  Now we have Gay Day at "The Park at MOA"?  So, this got me thinking.  Surely they can come up with a new theme & mascot.  What about...  Camp Spongebob?  Everyone can wear a pair of squarepants.  Camp Yu-Gi-Oh?  That's a Yu-Gi-Oh-No!  Then it hit me, like a frying pan to my head.  Camp Cupcake!  I think it's time the MOA jumped on the Martha Stewart patty wagon.  This can be the new logo:  Campcupcakesm_1

And you can take a ride on the "It's A Good Thing Twister" or maybe the "The Everyday Axe."  Where do I get in line?
